As you may have noticed, Microsoft has changed its attitude towards the open-source community in the past year.
For example, in recent months the company "opened" him Visual Studio code.
Today, the company has gone a step further by making it freely available to developers ChakraCore, the JavaScript engine that the new Edge browser uses in Windows 10.
The Chakra, as we mentioned earlier, is the engine used to run JavaScript. It has been developed from zero by 2008 and has the best possible compatibility with the ECMAScript 6 standard compared to other machines, including Google's V8.
Chakra is currently only used by the Edge browser, on Windows 10, but will also be used to power Universal Applications for Xbox, Windows Phone and tablets.
ChakraCore will be available at GitHub over the month as a standalone JavaScript engine that will enable developers to apply it to their own products.
From January of 2016, Microsoft will allow external developers to contribute to the project through GitHub's applications. More details on future collaborations with developers who are interested will be announced 2016 principle.
It's an interesting — and impressive — move from Microsoft, a company that's used to keeping its code under lock and key. software her.
