The company has recently filed a patent for a technology that can disinfect touch screens and kill bacteria and viruses.

According to the patent description, the new technology is based on a very thin transparent film that is placed on the screen and with UV it can disinfect it when it detects human touch.

"Ultraviolet light is emitted by a source of ultraviolet light on a transparent film. Light is transmitted through the transparent material and remains in the membrane through the total internal reflection. Ultraviolet light comes out of the transparent at contact points to disinfect fingers and immediate surrounding areas through total internal reflection,” the patent description reads.

Obviously, this technology is still being prepared and it could take some time before we see it applied to its devices Microsoft.
