Yesterday we published a reference to the Windows 11 24H2 release (general availability) date that Microsoft had confirmed in a blog post about Copilot's improved data protection. According to the post, the company has officially mentioned October 8, 2024, as its release date Windows 11 annual feature update.
However, a little later the company added an "Editor's note" to the original post that negates the date. The new addition states:
Editor's note 18.9.2024 – The dates listed below are for regular monthly service updates for supported versions of Windows 11 and do not relate to when Windows 11, build 24H2 will be generally available.
In addition to the editor's note, Microsoft has also edited parts of the article that specifically mention the “Windows 11 annual feature update”.
The company said in the original post:
The transition to the Microsoft 365 app as the entry point for Microsoft Copilot will align with the annual feature update release of Windows 11. The changes will be released to managed PCs starting with the optional preview release on September 24, 2024, and then with the monthly security update release on October 8 for all supported versions of Windows 11. These changes will apply to Windows 10 PCs from next month.
The transition to the Microsoft 365 app as an entry point for Microsoft Copilot is coming soon. The changes will roll out to managed PCs starting with the optional preview release on September 24, 2024, and then with the monthly security update release on October 8 for all supported versions of Windows 11. These changes will be applied to Windows 10 PCs next month .
What does all this mean?
Maybe Microsoft is planning to delay the general availability for a while, as there could be a problem, or maybe they just aren't ready to set a date yet.
The situation is somewhat similar to the issue of removing the Control Panel, which will be done and never done.
