After the incident that destroyed thousands of Windows computers around the world in July of this year, Microsoft he said a series of improvements to its operating system that will strengthen the reliability and security of the Windows ecosystem under the Windows Resiliency Initiative.
According to Microsoft, the Windows Resiliency Initiative focuses on four key areas: improving reliability, reducing dependency on administrative rights, improving controls on drivers allowed to run on the system, and preventing phishing attacks.
So the first improvement that the company decided on is fast system recovery. This feature will help to deal with situations like PCs crashing with CrowdStrike in July 2024. Quickly restoring systems will allow IT administrators to run critical Windows fixes and updates on systems that cannot start, say, due to blue screens of death, boot loops or other critical errors. Microsoft will ensure that these updates can be installed remotely without requiring physical access to the target computer.
