In 2019 Microsoft Edge was still a clean browser, with solid compatibility, fast performance without a bunch of features. At the end of 2023 Microsoft Edge is trying to become one of the most hated browsers.
Too many controversial and user-unfriendly practices force users to voice their grievances on social media.
Most of the time, Edge's official X (Twitter) account seems to ignore such posts, busying himself with posting TikTok-style videos of hedgehogs. So today someone behind the Microsoft Edge account decided to make a very bold move.
On December 12, 2023, user X @cadenzza_ made a post with a screenshot of an Edge asking to set Bing as the default search engine. The funny thing was the lack of a “No” button, just like the famous Windows 11 upgrade prompt with two “Yes” buttons. Mario tagged the official Microsoft Edge account on X and, two days later, received a bold and incredible response.
The reply to the post that said the "Never" button was missing was "No, it's not missing', with a blue heart emoji.
Unsurprisingly, the post sparked a wave of heated responses, with some users wanting to file antitrust lawsuits against Microsoft and others citing the company's disrespectful behavior.
Others said they had abandoned Microsoft Edge for other alternatives and even went the extra step of removing the browser from Windows 10 and 11.
If you too think Microsoft Edge has lost its way, we have good news: the EU has forced Microsoft to let its customers uninstall the browser.
It is clear that Microsoft should rethink its strategies as it is annoying and hurting its customers. Monthly reports from Statcounter show that aggressive practices are getting the Edge nowhere.
