The operating system Mint 18.2 “Sonya” was released yesterday. Today all users of Mint Linux 18.1 "Sarah" can upgrade their systems as he says Clement Lefebvre in an official statement.
The upgrade path is open to all Linux Mint 18.1 users, regardless of the flavor they use (eg Cinnamon, MATE, KDE or Xfce).
“It is now possible to upgrade Linux Mint 18 and 18.1 to version 18.2 If you've been waiting, I'd like to thank you for your patience: upgrading to 18.2 is relatively easy," says Clement Lefebvre.
To upgrade from Linux Mint 18.1 to Linux Mint 18.2, you need to open the Update Manager application, and click the "Refresh" or "Refresh" button to check for newer versions of the mint-upgrade-info and mintupdate. After installing the two packages, open the System Upgrade utility, go to the Edit menu and click on "Upgrade to Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya" or "Upgrade to Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya."
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Make sure you have chosen to replace all configuration files when prompted to keep them or replace them. Once the upgrade process is complete, you will have to restart your computer and you will be ready to use your new Linux Mint 18.2 operating system.
Note that the upgrade process will not update the kernel packages in the new edition using Linux Mint 18.2 nor will it replace MDM (Mint Display Manager) with the LightDM login screen used in the new Cinnamon release.
Of course you can choose to install them via Update Manager. Run the following commands on your terminal to install the LightDM.
