Google has reportedly incorporated code Morse on Gboard for Android and iOS devices. Apparently it is an attempt by the company to help people with limited mobility to communicate using their smartphones.
However, it would not be a bad idea to learn Morse code.
What is the Morse Code?
The Morse code was developed in the 1800 decade to allow messages to be sent via telegraphs. Its simplicity makes Morse code one of the most flexible forms of communication and has been used in countless ways over the years.
The latest use of the Morse code is like assistive technology to help people with mobility problems in communication.
The Morsse code consists of dots and dashes which, depending on the order and the repeats, are converted into letters. So the code is ideal for people with disabilities who want to use modern technology.
Morse code at Gboard
Google has added support for Morse code to Gboard, the company's keyboard application running on Android and iOS devices. The company works with Tania Finlayson, an expert in assistive technology with Morse code. Finlayson has cerebral palsy, so he knows the value of assistive technology very well.
Finlayson explained the value of the Morse code in a post at The Keyword saying:
Technology today is designed for the mass market. Unfortunately, this means that people with disabilities are left behind. Developing communication tools like this is important, because for many people it makes their lives more lively.
