Movie posters: They don't make them like they used to. Sure, smaller independent films usually have something interesting, but posters for big blockbusters are pretty standard. However, in the first decades of cinema everything was different.
With handmade illustrations and letters, collages of black and white photographs or geometric designs of the Middle Ages, these posters look like works of art. If you are interested in the genre, there is a very large collection of classic movie posters. The good news is that you can download them for free.
The Movie Poster Collection at the University of Texas Austin's Harry Ransom Center contains approximately 10.000 digitized movie posters dating back to the silent cinema era.
Most of the collection comes from the Interstate Theater Circuit - a chain that once had almost every movie theater in Texas.
Posters, movies, lobby cards and books cover from the 1940s to the 1970s. You will find a very large collection of movies from the 1950s and 1960s, such as musicals, epics, westerns, horror movies, counterculture and much more.
