Mozilla Firefox new protection for social networks

Mozilla plans to add a new specialized protection function for the monitoring we receive from social networks to the tracker protection system it already uses. This feature is under development, and will probably be released with its release Firefox 70.

According to one bug report Mozilla's protection from social media trackers will have its own category called "Social media trackers". According to mockups found by BleepingComputer, social monitoring protection will be enabled by default in the Standard setting, but Firefox will not aggressively block all trackers from disrupting a site's functionality.

Additionally, mockups indicate that the current Firefox content blocking feature will be renamed Enhanced Tracking Protection as shown above.

According to the archive social-tracking-protection-blacklist.json Mozilla, the new feature will initially block trackers on domains related to the following sites or social networking services.

Facebook

Instagram
Facebook Messenger
WhatsApp
Twitter
TweetDeck
LinkedIn
YouTube

When social media trackers are disabled, users will be able to open the Tracking Protection Panel and then click on the new Social Media Trackers category to view a sub- box that displays blocked social media trackers.

Firefox will display a box explaining that a social tracker has been blocked. According to the design mockup, these notifications will only appear after loading a social network page.

Firefox also plans to display different profiles for enhanced Tracking Protection features, including protection against Fingerprinting, Cryptominers, and Cross-Site Tracking Cookies.

So it seems that social monitoring protection has been actively developed and is being prepared for the upcoming Firefox 70. However, it should be noted that the above images are just mockups, so they may not end up in the final product.
