Secret hack to clean up Gmail

Gmail recently released a new feature that helps you easily unsubscribe from bulk emails (Gmail UnsubscriberIt's a good way to clean up your inbox and focus on the emails that matter most.

Open the Manage Subscriptions page in Gmail and you'll see a list of all your bulk email senders, sorted by the number of messages received from each sender. You can then unsubscribe from any sender with a single click.

But what if you want a list of every email newsletter and promotional email that has arrived in your Gmail inbox, sorted by the date they were received?

Well, there's an undocumented search operator (term) in Gmail that can help you with that. In the Gmail search box, type:

label:^unsub

^unsub is a system label in Gmail that is automatically applied to emails that Gmail considers to be bulk emails. This includes newsletters, promotional emails, and other types of bulk mailings.

Reclaim Space in Your Gmail

Combine Gmail's secret delete operator with the larger_than operator to filter bulk emails that are larger than a certain size with the following search term:

label:^unsub larger_than:100k

It will show you all the bulk emails in your inbox that are larger than 100kb, which usually include newsletters and promotional emails. You can then send them to the trash and reclaim space in your account.
