Netflix has joined FAPAV, the largest group to fight it piracys in Italy, and is responsible for the ban of hundreds of websites that distribute illegal content, permission by the producers.
Seria A, the professional football league in Italy, also joined the alliance with Netflix.
In a press release announcing the new members, FAPAV expressed its satisfaction with the results it has achieved in the fight against piracy, explaining that in 2019 it managed to block access to 400 illegal websites that had access to pirated content. This is an increase of 230% compared to 2018, according to the team, adding that the fact makes it the most active anti-piracy team in Europe.
In addition, FAPAV states that in 2020 the fight against illegal IPTV will be one of the main goals due to the new members who have joined the group.
Piracy, however, is not the only reason Netflix is losing money.
According to estimates published by CordCutting earlier this year, Netflix loses about $192 million each month due to users sharing the same account, while the opponents Companies Amazon and Hulu are far behind with $45 million and $40 million, respectively, in monthly losses. Every year, Netflix loses about $2,3 billion in revenue because of the 24 million users who access Netflix but don't pay a subscription.
Fighting piracy globally is a long-term effort for Netflix that could eventually have more customers, which will significantly increase its monthly revenue.
Official figures released in October show that Netflix had 158,3 million subscribers worldwide, with forecasts of wanting an increase of 7,6 million subscribers in the last quarter of 2019.
