The Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime informs the citizens that in the last period of time it has been receiving complaints concerning the deception of store owners, in which, among other things, prepaid cards, such as "paysafe", are sold for online markets.
In particular, the complaints of the owners of the stores (kiosks, convenience stores, etc.) concern cases in which unknown persons have called them and, pretending to be either their regular customers or employees of companies with prepaid cards, have convinced them to proceed to version prepaid cards and tell them its code by phone cards.
In some cases, the perpetrators claim to be technicians of the company who have installed the prepaid card machines in the shops and in order to verify their proper functioning, they ask the owners to issue cards and give them the code, so so as to make the necessary necessary tests from the central system of the supplying company.
Afterwards, store owners, after contacting the prepaid card companies, eventually find that they are being used directly, mainly on online gambling sites or online shopping.
Citizens are urged, in the face of such incidents, to be particularly careful in their dealings, in order to avoid possible deception. In particular, store owners should not issue prepaid cards by telephone unless they have previously cross-referenced the identity of the person. Also, you should be careful in any case during the process of dealing with customers.
