Full match between US Democrats and Republicans, who for the first time agree to something. The issue was the NSA mass surveillance.
The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the U.S. Freedoms Act, a bill that would ban NSA to collect uncontrolled phone metadata.
The new law will allow only targeted approaches from the National Security Service.
The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the bill, with 338 pro and 88 according to TNW.
The timing appears to be important, as paragraph 215 of the Act Patriot (the legal basis the NSA uses to justify data collection) is set to expire on June 1st.
The bill will now have to pass through the Senate, which is expected to vote on 22 in May.
Large technology companies such as Google έχουν ήδη εκφράσει την υποστήριξή τους για τον νέο νόμο περί Ελευθεριών των ΗΠΑ (USA Freedom Act).
Too good to be true? Time will tell…
