Law on the Control of Conversations (Greece undecided)

Over the years, certain messaging apps have become popular among internet users who are concerned about their privacy. Apps like Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp are supposed to be encrypted to ensure complete user security.

However, the European Union has presented its proposal for Chat Control, which would require all messaging services – including email – to “scan” messages in order to combat child exploitation and abuse.

As it stands today, only three European Union members oppose the proposal, 15 support it, and another nine are undecided. Greece is among the undecided.

The “ Fight Chat Control ” campaign was launched to persuade residents of EU member states to contact members of the European Parliament about this issue.

Fight Chat Control says child protection measures are ultimately “ineffective” and has hired experts to back up their claim. They are also concerned about “false positives” being flagged when scanning messages.

“Automated scanners often incorrectly identify innocent content, such as vacation photos or private jokes, as illegal content, putting ordinary citizens at risk of false accusations and damaging investigations.”

The Chat Control measures, which have been described as the “most criticized law ever,” will be decided on October 14. This gives Fight Chat Control just two months to rally against them.
