Η Microsoft he revealed plans to release a new version of Microsoft Office on the Long-Term Service Channel (LTSC) for Windows and Mac devices today.
Microsoft Office 2021 will be the successor to Office 2019 and will be supported for five years from the day of its official release. Office 2019 and the upcoming Office 2021 are products of a device purchased with a one-time payment.
The new version of Office will bring new features and improvements to the application. Office LTSC is locked with certain features when released. Microsoft will have security and debug updates, but the suite of applications will not receive constant updates of new features, such as Windows 10 or Microsoft 365 after its release.
The new Office will come with Microsoft Teams, not Skype for Business. The latest application is available as a standalone download from the Microsoft Download Center website.
Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365, made the announcement on the official Microsoft 365 blog and it should come as no surprise that Microsoft considers Office 2021 suitable for "a limited set of specific situations". This is mentioned because the company promotes the cloud solution (Microsoft 365) for corporate and business environments.
Microsoft 365 includes Office tools, and is a subscription service. Microsoft Office 2021 has a device-based license.
The company plans to release a preview of Office 2021 in April 2021. The new version of Office will come as a 32- and 64-bit application, and will include the OneNote application, according to the announcement.
