The Google Chrome team created an experimental browser called DiscoThe new browser takes a query or prompt, opens a cluster of related tabs, and then creates a custom app for whatever task the user is trying to complete. The browser launched Thursday as an experiment in Google's Search Labs.
GenTabs, the core feature that powers the Disco browser, are information-rich pages generated by Google's Gemini AI models. You can ask for travel advice and the system generates a planning app.
Disco – named partly to evoke fun, but also as an abbreviation for “discovery” – started as a hackathon project within Google before piquing the team’s interest.
Parisa Tabriz, head of the Chrome team, said that Disco is not intended as a general-purpose browser and is not an attempt to cannibalize Chrome.
The experiment aims to test what happens when users move from simply having tabs to creating personalized, curated apps on demand.
The feature builds on features in the recently released Gemini 3, applications created at the user's request that can create unique interactive interfaces or other tiny applications instead of simply returning text or images.
