You play online poker; A decade ago, you could probably have been making money online, because maybe the players were worse, and why you were not playing with scammers or bots.
Today, you seem more likely to be playing with someone malicious program tailored specifically to target online poker players.
According to her security company ESET, one such malware it only targets PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker players.
Malware enters victims' computers through P2P downloads of applications. Some of these applications some are related to poker, and some are unrelated.
Once the trojan (Win32 / Spy.Odlanor) "lands" on a system, it takes screenshots of the poker clients used by the victim (if present in the system) and sends them to the attacker. As you understand from the name of the trojan (Spy), malware allows the attacker to spy on every move of the victim.
What happens next?
The screenshots include the ID card of the player, which then allows the attacker to discover his victim on one of the websites we mentioned, and sit with him at the same table. From that point on, the victim has no chance.
If you're one of those who play, ESET's announcement of malware that is targeted directly to online poker players is a reminder for you.
