With the complexity of the functions being a feature that is becoming more and more common in modern digital crime, Kaspersky Lab has launched a new online service that gathers all available information about the most sophisticated malware campaigns. In the interactive Targeted Cyberattacks Logbook all the research work of the recognized Worldwide Research and Analysis Group of Kaspersky Lab is presented.
"Four years ago, we could consider targeted digital campaigns as extraordinary events, but today we are investigating more and more incidents every year. They are no longer isolated events. Targeted attacks have found a special place in the world of digital threats and require special attention. This is the reason why we launched this new online service. We want to present the scale of sophisticated digital campaigns and provide a tool for assessing their growth and their reach. Only 2014, we recorded more than 4.400 victims of targeted attacks in the business sector, he said Alexander Gostev, Chief Security Consultant by Kaspersky Lab.
The company's "online radar" includes a long-time survey of 29 large targeted attacks, including well-known campaigns such as Regin, Darkhotel, Cloud Atlas and others. Through the new service the users they can explore the relationships between threats, their trends and impacts, or investigate the behavior of specific threats.
Each digital attack appears on a timeline in the form of a ship: the bigger the ship, the longer the campaign has been running. The "drift" behind the ship shows the time that elapsed from the detection of the first malware samples to the publication of the results of the research project. The color gradient indicates the number of victims.
The service makes it possible to track potential relationships between different digital campaigns, as well as retrieve detailed information about each of them, such as the geography of "infections", the ways in which the malware was spread, the targets of digital criminals and the special ones characteristics of each attack. A handy filter helps classify attacks into categories, making it possible, for example, to identify attacks that only targeted information from private Companies, in a specific country, making use of specific techniques.
