OpenAI GPT-6 Astra Welcome to the Age of AGI

OpenAI was released the GPT-6 Astra, a new model that company president Greg Brockman called “a giant leap” and said could represent the arrival of AGI. “I think it could be about this model,” Brockman told reporters, concluding the briefing by saying, “Welcome to the age of AGI.”screenshot 20260904 064806

AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is a theoretical artificial intelligence system that can understand, learn, and perform any mental task that a human can perform. Unlike today's AI that only does specific jobs, AGI will think and adapt everywhere.

Axios reports :

Astra brings AI agents closer to performing complex professional work – while also raising questions about how they can be deployed safely. OpenAI said Astra was built on all of its training, using more than 100.000 GPUs at its Stargate facility in Texas.

The company also said that this is its first model to use other models to supervise Astra’s training. GPT-6 Astra will initially be available to a limited set of organizations in OpenAI’s Daybreak Access program and will be available “in the coming days” to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise customers as well as API developers.

OpenAI said earlier this week that Astra will be released soon, but that its most powerful cybersecurity capabilities will be limited to a small group of trusted auditors.

Astra is the first model that OpenAI has characterized as the first model to reach the “critical” cybersecurity threshold in the readiness framework – meaning it can potentially find completely unknown vulnerabilities in well-protected systems without any step-by-step human guidance.

OpenAI had slowed the release of Astra to add security testing when it found that its cyber-dynamic capabilities could reach critical limits.
