OpenAI shuts down ChatGPT Atlas browser

OpenAI is already shutting down ChatGPT Atlas, its browser that could run tasks on your behalf, less than a year after it was released. Atlas was announced in October, but as part of the ChatGPT Work updates, the company confirmed that it will “decommission” Atlas on August 9th.atlas

In recent months, OpenAI has also shut down its video-creation app Sora and suspended its plans for an “adult mode” of ChatGPT, as it tries to reduce “collateral damage” (costs, that’s a lot of money on Mars ) and fill the gap with Anthropic in productivity features.

In a thread on X about ChatGPT Work announcements, which include an updated browser in the ChatGPT desktop app and a cloud browser for work mode, OpenAI's James Sun said :

“All of these features are based on what we learned from Atlas users who made a commitment to a new browser. You taught us how agents can help improve browsing and working on the open web, and we’re applying that learning to these new products.”
