OpenAI is preparing to launch a frontal assault on Google. ChatGPT's CEO recently considered developing a browser that would feature his chatbot and is said to have separately discussed or struck deals to bring search capabilities to travel, food, real estate and other websites, according to people familiar with the matter.
OpenAI has discussed a search app with website and app developers including Conde Nast, Redfin, Eventbrite and Priceline, they report the sources at News.
The company has also discussed powering AI capabilities in devices made by Samsung, a key business partner of Google, similar to a deal OpenAI recently struck with Apple.
The move could pit Sam Altman's company against Google, which owns the lion's share of the browser and search market.
OpenAI has already entered the search market with the SearchGPT.
Google owner Alphabet, on the other hand, is trying to boost its AI reach after the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, responding last year with its own chatbot, the Gemini.
Google's dominance of the browser market became precarious after the The US Department of Justice argues that the company should sell its Chrome browser and end its monopoly on online search.
The Information publication, however, said that OpenAI is not very close to releasing a browser.
