openSUSE 16.0 RC

The openSUSE project has released the release candidate for the upcoming Leap 16.0 release. The new snapshot introduces a new system installer, offers Xfce running in a Wayland session, and removes YaST packages from the default installation.

“Leap 16.0 uses the latest Agama version for both online and offline installations. You can download the installation images from get.opensuse.org. Alternatively, users can choose one of our images.”

“We only offer Wayland-based desktop environments. Xfce on Wayland was recently added to the list. Thanks to the openSUSE Xfce team, we are among the first to provide it as an experimental preview to users. The Xfce mailing list has been quite active as we approach RC. Users can enjoy the minimalist, Wayland-friendly greetd and gtkgreet as a replacement for LightDM.”

“Get the Leap 16.0 installation image and try it out! Please note that Wayland support in Xfce is experimental and there are many issues.”

This snapshot changes replaces AppArmor with SELinux for system access control.

More details are available in the announcement of the new release.
