This year in May, Opera announced Neon, the first browser powered by Artificial Intelligence, with some interesting insights into what AI can do for modern web browsing. Today, Opera Neon is rolling out to its first users.
In addition to traditional browsing capabilities like those of Chrome, Edge, Opera, or any other browser, Opera Neon offers an AI agent , which can act on your behalf and work on complex projects and tasks.
We usually have multiple tabs open when working on a single topic, and Opera Neon wants to simplify things by introducing Tasks. In short, Tasks are self-contained workspaces (like small browsers within a browser) where AI can understand the context and help you by analyzing, comparing, and acting on multiple pages at once.
Additionally, Opera Neon features cards, a set of reusable prompts (commands) that you can use whenever you want. Opera records and compares cards to your favorite and most useful AI behaviors and actions that you use most often.
You can create your own custom cards, use the built-in ones, or access community-created collections in the store.
Finally, Opera Neon features Neon Do, the biggest upgrade to the browser. Neon Do is your browser bot that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to perform actions on your behalf: opening tabs, closing tabs, navigating the web, comparing information, filling out forms, collecting data, and more.
Opera claims that Neon Do only works within the actual browser and not in the cloud, which means it uses your local data, bypassing the need to share passwords or authenticate with cloud services. All actions also happen on-screen and in real time, so you can see what the AI is doing for you.
And now the bad news
Neon's AI-powered features are not free.
Opera Neon is a premium, subscription-based browser aimed at power users first. The number of invites is limited, but Opera promises to expand the rollout soon. As for the price, Opera Neon will cost you $19,90 per month.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
