Operese transfers Windows 10 files and settings to Linux

TechnoPorg, who claims to be a student at the University of Waterloo, has released an interesting utility that can transfer Windows 10 files and settings to Linux (Windows-to-Linux “translation” tool).

The tool is called Operese and is developed in Rust. The utility migrates users from Windows 10 to Kubuntu, a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu that uses the KDE Plasma desktop.

This is a very useful tool, since users who are not familiar with technology probably need an automatic application like this to help them.

Operese doesn't claim to solve every problem, but it aims to make the migration process simpler. Rather than wiping your disk, it offers a guided migration that transfers the essentials and helps users get settled into a Linux environment.

The developer of this tool states that the reason for choosing the Kubuntu distribution is its stability and good support for third-party drivers. In the future, the developer states that they plan to add more configuration and program migration, UEFI support, better multi-user support, and more.

The application is still in development, so it's best not to use it right away, at least not with your real data. You can try it out in a virtual machine to see how it works.
