Oreon is a desktop Linux distribution based on AlmaLinux. It combines the stability and security of an enterprise Linux distribution with user-friendly features for desktop and laptop users.
Its main features include the GNOME desktop with a custom Oreon theme, ten years of support, and access to thousands of packages from AlmaLinux and Oreon-specific repositories.
Brandon Lester announced the release of Oreon 10-2603, a new update to the live distribution based on AlmaLinux (supported until 2035) and featuring a custom GNOME desktop.
This release replaces the Anaconda installer with a custom installer called “Centrio” and changes the default file system from XFS to Btrfs:
“Oreon 10 March 2026 update (build 2603). It is a major feature update for Oreon 10.”
