According to Bleeping ComputerAfter installing Windows 11 cumulative update KB5074109 (January 13, 2026), some users are reporting that Outlook freezes or hangs, especially when using classic POP email profiles.
The issue primarily affects classic versions of Microsoft Outlook on systems running Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2.
Users are reporting that Outlook is not closing properly or is stuck in a “not responding” state shortly after launch. Reports suggest that the issue does not affect account settings that use Exchange, which suggests that it is a compatibility issue specific to POP.
Microsoft has acknowledged the bug and added it to the official documentation as a known issue with the update. The company also states the now-familiar “we are investigating the issue and will update you as soon as more details become available or a permanent fix is ready.”
In the meantime, affected users have found a temporary workaround. Uninstalling KB5074109 seems to restore normal Outlook behavior. You can remove the update from Settings, Windows Update, and then select Update History. Select Uninstall updates, and then remove KB5074109.
Microsoft investigates KB5074109 as issues extend beyond Outlook
This Outlook bug adds to a growing list of issues brought about by update KB5074109. Separate reports show connection failures in Azure Virtual Desktop environments, which have caused concern among enterprise system administrators.
