Edge includes a hidden fun game called Let's Surf, which is a tribute to the old game “SkiFree”.

The game “Let's Surf” was originally released with the Microsoft Edge 83 update of May 2020. But it is not easily accessible as to play it you have to open Edge and type the address edge: // surf.

Upon opening the game, you will be asked to select a surfer. You then start on a downward course where you have to use the left and right arrow keys to avoid obstacles. Pressing the “f” key gives you a boost, although you should only use this to avoid the octopus chasing you, as the game is already fast enough on its own!

With the up arrow the surfer will stop and the game will slow down, but other surfers will pass you and you will lose points.

“Let's Surf” also supports mouse controls and is compatible with Xbox controllers. With the Space key it starts and also pauses. At three hits on the obstacles the game is over.

It recently resurfaced during the frustratingly slow installation process of Windows 11. Apparently Microsoft included it to distract you so that the installation delay doesn't seem so long.

Windows 11 will ask if you want to play “Let's Surf” when setting up a new PC, although you can play it at any time by typing edge://surf in the Microsoft Edge address bar.

Old PC users who remember “FreeSki” from 1991 will enjoy “Let's Surf” as it is similar but instead of snow now we have sea. “Let's Surf” is obviously a bit more modern and takes place in a different setting.

“FreeSki” was originally included in Microsoft Entertainment Pack 3 along with “TriPeaks”, “WordZap” and other classic titles. In case you were wondering, you could also use the “f” key to escape the yeti in “FreeSki”.

Windows 11's setup process is still a bit of a mess, but Let's Surf should make it a little more tolerable. Again, if you want to play “Let's Surf” without configuring your computer and starting over, just type edge://surf in the Microsoft Edge address bar. The game works on both Windows and macOS.
