Paint.net 5.0.13 has been released. The final version of the Windows image editor is a major release that features performance improvements, a new effects system for better GPU performance, support for pressure sensitivity from pens and drawing tablets, and more.

The first alpha version of Paint.net 5 was released in November 2022. Paint.net 5.0 was the first major release that no longer supported older versions of Windows.

Paint.net 5.0.13 only supports 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and 11. All older versions of Paint.net will still be installed on Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 but will not be supported.

  • Windows 10 v1809+ or Windows 11
    • NOTE: Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 are no longer supported.
  • 64-bit CPU and 64-bit version of Windows
    • Both Intel/AMD x64 and ARM64 are natively supported.
    • NOTE: 32-bit x86 is no longer supported.

A post on the official Get Paint website provides detailed descriptions of the major changes in the new version of the image editor.
