Windows 10 Pro End Passwords: Palm-Vein Technology

Η reportedly added “palm-vein” support to 10 Pro. The new feature comes as an authentication add-on to Windows Hello which already works with facial recognition and fingerprint scanning.

Authentication with the veins of your palm, developed in collaboration with Fujitsu. The company is in the process of developing biometric palm-vein identification technology to 80.000 employees in Japan.palm-vein

This corporate cooperation means that Windows 10 Pro users will be able to use Fujitsu PalmSecure sensors that will be integrated into the Fujitsu laptop keyboard or a USB-connected scanner.

Users will place their hand over the sensor, instead of touching it as they would with a fingerprint sensor. The scanner is already built into Fujitsu Lifebook and Stylystic series laptops.

The scan focuses on a few veins on the arm to authenticate users and of course no one is required . An advantage over fingerprint and facial recognition is that it is much more difficult to copy the veins under the skin.

Fujitsu markets PalmSecure as a "contactless, hygienic and non-invasive" authentication system and states that palm detection has a false identification rate of 0.00008 percent and an authentication failure rate of only 0.01 percent.

Fujitsu also reports that Brazilian bank Banco Bradesco and Korean credit card company Lotte Card are already using the technology.
