Nationwide Research on Bullying in Children and Adolescents

"The Smile of the Child", as a European recognized "National Center against Intra-School Violence and Bullying" announced on Wednesday, March 9 in an online event the launch of an annual nationwide campaign entitled "Speak Now" about the phenomenon of Intra-school / Intra-school Violence / Bullying.

In the context of this initiative, the sponsored a pan-Hellenic survey on a sample of 1.000 people aged 16-64 regarding the opinions and experiences of the Greek public on the phenomenon of bullying among young people. The results of the survey showed that:

  • Eight out of ten Greeks consider it verbal and emotional blackmail the most widespread forms of bullying.
  • Six out of ten Greeks have personally been bullied in their childhood / adolescence, with the phenomenon showing the same proportion of men and women
  • Main spaces where bullying happens are the spaces s / schools.
  • Bullying is practiced mainly by peers, with the main reason being their need to stand out, to "make fun", to imitate others, but also out of feelings of inferiority!
  • When bullied, a child feels fear, despair / despair, but also shame, misery and guilt
  • Unfortunately, the majority of children who are bullied do not talk about it, nor do they seek help from anyone, while…
  • The minority of children who ask for help are mainly addressed to their parents, and to a lesser extent to some official institution.
