Microsoft has released the latest security updates for Patch Tuesday April 2020 yesterday afternoon, and today the company warns, stating that one of the patches could corrupt certain types of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
Specifically, the problem was detected in a Microsoft Office security update, and if your device is affected, you will see the following message:
"Compile error: Cannot find project or library" or in English "Compile error: Can't find project or library."
This error occurs when you work with files: executable files (.exe), ActiveX controls (.ocx), and typelibs (.olb, .tlb, and .dll).
Microsoft reports that certain file types are blocked after the update is installed, whether downloaded from the Internet or from intranet servers.
"When you install one of the Microsoft Office security updates explained in Microsoft Common Vulnerilities and Exposures CVE-2020-0760, you may notice that certain types of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) reports are blocked and you receive an error message," says the company. .
What can you do if this error appears on your screen after you install Patch Tuesday updates? Microsoft says the only way to fix this is to replace the locked libraries with local ones, and gives more instructions:
"VBA Internet Object Libraries: We recommend that you exclude them because they are vulnerable.
Intranet VBA Object Libraries: You can enable them via a GPO setting, as shown in the image below. The setting can be found in User Configuration> Management Templates> Microsoft Office 2016> Security Settings. ”
If the above problem does not affect you, you will not need to do anything on your system.
