The most important security update of the year, if not the last five years, is distributed by Microsoft with Patch Tuesday.
The standard "patch" for Windows, the second Tuesday of this month, Microsoft (Patch Tuesday) gives users a patch that addresses the "major" problem caused by the FREAK bug. A technique known as FREAK breaks down the encryption of websites protected by what appears to be a secure connection with weak 512bit keys. The security loophole was identified by Microsoft and the French Institute for Computer Science and Automation Research. It was initially thought to be limited to the Apple browser (in all versions of Safari) and the browsers that come with Android phones (stock Android), with Chrome being excluded. Later, it was found that it also affects Windows machines.
Apple has released iOS 8.2 from Monday, including a patch in the Safari gap.

In addition, the March 2015 security update comes to shield Windows systems from the "first digital weapon". The Stuxnet "worm" was the one that five years ago targeted an industrial control system at an Iranian nuclear power plant and was a benchmark for how an electronic program could do damage to the real world, as Stuxnet destroyed real equipment.
