Perplexity is worth $18 billion and is paying $34,5 billion to acquire Chrome

Artificial intelligence startup Perplexity offered to buy Google's Chrome browser on Tuesday for $ 34,5 billion, as it tries to challenge the search company's dominance of the internet.

Perplexity's offer is significantly higher than its own valuation, which is estimated at $18 billion. The company told the Wall Street Journal that several investors, including large venture capitalists, have agreed to fully support the transaction.

Estimates of Chrome's enterprise value vary considerably, but recent ones range from $20 billion to $50 billion.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta is considering forcing Google to sell the browser as a means of weakening Google's dominance in internet search.

Mehta last year ruled that Google illegally monopolizes the search market and is expected to rule this month on how to restore competition.
