The “Run as different user” option in the menu of Windows 10 allows you to run a bat, cmd, exe, MSc or MSI file as a different user.
This feature by default Windows 10 does not appear in the pinned menu screen of the start screen. However, it can be added by using a setting in the registry or local group policy.
Non-Pro users can only tamper with the registry, while Pro users can change either through registry or local group policy. Let's see how both ways.
A. Through a registry
1. At the same time, press the Win + R keys and the Run window will appear automatically. Here write the word regedit and press the OK button.
2. In the Registry Editor window that appears, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Explorer (or in) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Explorer
3. If the "Explorer" key does not exist under "Windows" just create it by right-clicking on the "Windows" key and selecting "Create> Key". Otherwise ignore this step
4. Create a price DWORD to be named ShowRunAsDifferentUserInStart and set the value data to 1
5. Close Registry Editor. Changes will be saved automatically
B. Through Local Group Policy
The above setting corresponds to the following Group Policy setting
1. Press Win + R at the same time and the Run window will appear automatically. Write the word there gpedit.msc and press the OK button.
2. In the Local Group Policy Editor window that will appear navigate to:
Local Computer> User Settings> Management Templates> Taskbar and Start Menu
3. Find [Run the show as a different user in the start menu] and double-click it.
4. In the new policy editing window, highlight the "Enabled" option and press the OK button to save your change.
5. Close all open windows.
You can make this setting per user or per machine, according to your needs.
