Last Saturday, the Pokemon GO servers experienced a prolonged downtime that affected all the game's infrastructure, from a DDoS attack carried out by the relatively new hacking group PoodleCorp.
Most DDoS attacks against games do not focus on causing damage to servers or blackmailing the company, but rather to annoy players.
Just like the Lizard Squad have carried out attacks on the Xbox and PSN network in recent years, hackers thought to hit the infrastructure of Pokemon GO to laugh at the reactions of its players.

The servers returned to normal a few hours later. The legality of the attack was disputed a few hours after Nintendo announced that it had started the game in 26 still countries.
The new countries will soon experience the Pokemon GO hysteria according to a company announcement are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Νορβηγία, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland.
