The Internet is a “gift from God", so believes Pope Francis. The statement comes on the occasion of the Catholic Church's World Communications Day.
Not only is the Internet a gift from God, but the Pope also sees it as a good means of promoting dialogue between different groups. He believes that the internet has helped create a sense of unity in the world, along with the unprecedented rapid advances in technology and digital media.
Communication, even online, could help to smooth out differences of many natures, including religious, economic and political.
The Pope emphasized, however, that the speed of social networks can also work against individuals, since they can isolate them users from their friends and family.
"Although all these disadvantages are real, they can not be an excuse to reject social media. Rather, they remind us that communication is ultimately human and not a technological achievement. So what is it that helps us, in a digital environment, to understand the entity and mutual understanding? ” he wondered .
Overall, however, the digital world can be an environment rich in entities, describing it as "not a network of wires, but of people."
