How to use your mobile phone as a Windows microphone

If your computer does not have a microphone, you can use your mobile phone. See how you can make a smartphone work as a microphone.

The microphone is a useful material for a computer. With this you can chat with your friends via video calls, until sing softly and find the title of a song. But what if you do not have or if it is damaged?

You may not have a microphone for your computer, but you definitely have a smartphone. And that can solve the problem. You can use your mobile phone as a computer microphone and it is incredibly easy to set up.

We will show you four different ways to use your phone as a microphone.

How to use your phone as a computer microphone

One of the best ways to achieve this is with use of WO Mic. With this program, you can use USB, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect your smartphone microphone to your computer.

It is completely free, has a low latency and works in any application like a standard microphone.

Go to WO Mic website and download the client program for Windows as well as the device driver. Install both. Then install either Android application, either iOS, depending on what kind of mobile phone you have.

Start the Windows program. Go to Connection> Connect and select one Transport type (type of transport).

We will analyze in detail the steps for all the different options below.

1. Connect via Bluetooth

First, turn on Bluetooth on your computer:

  1.  Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings.
  2.  Go to Devices> Bluetooth and other devices.
  3.  Turn on Bluetooth. Your computer can now be found on other devices.

Then turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Exactly enabling this option varies from device to device, but is logically located somewhere in Settings (and perhaps within a Connections menu).
Connect your phone to your computer. A notification should appear on your computer to confirm the connection.

In the WO Mic program on Windows:

  1. Under Transport type, select Bluetooth.
  2. Select your phone from the Target Bluetooth drop-down menu.
  3. Click OK.

In the WO Mic app installed on the phone:

  1. Press the setting gear.
  2. Press Transport and select Bluetooth.
  3. Return to the previous screen and tap the play icon to start transmitting your voice.

2. Connect via USB
This method only works for Android. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable. It's the same you use for the of the phone.

Windows may prompt you to install a driver, so follow the procedure if necessary.

Then turn on USB debugging in your phone's developer options. Windows should then recognize your phone as a device.

In the program WO Mic at Windows:

  1. Under Transport Type, select USB.
  2. Click OK.

In the WO Mic app installed on the phone:

  1. Press the setting gear.
  2. Press Transport and select USB.
  3. Return to the previous screen and tap the play icon to turn on your phone microphone.

3. Connect via Wi-Fi

For this method, both your phone and your computer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

To set up the Wi-Fi network in Windows:

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings.
  2. Go to Network and Internet> Wi-Fi.
  3. Click Show Available Networks.
  4. Click the network that you want to use, and then click Connect.

On the WO Mic phone app:

  1. Press the setting gear.
  2. Press Transport and select Wi-Fi.
  3. Return to the previous screen and tap the play icon. A gray will appear banner with a number at the end. This is the IP address.

In the WO Mic app installed on the phone:

  1. Select Transport Type as Wi-Fi.
  2. Click OK.
  3. In the Server IP Address field, enter the IP address of the application.
  4. Click OK to start using the microphone.

4. Connect via Wi-Fi Direct
This method requires you to turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot (hotspot) and use your network data. Use it as a last resort. if your computer does not have its own internet connection and the other methods above are not suitable.

First, create a Wi-Fi hotspot from your phone. The way to do this varies from device to device, but take a look at Settings and you can usually find it under the Connections or Connection category.

Next, you need to connect your computer to this hotspot:

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings.
  2. Go to Network and Internet> WiFi.
  3. Click Show Available Networks.
  4. Click the hotspot, and then click Connect.

On the WO phone microphone application:

  1. Press the setting gear.
  2. Press Transport and select Wi-Fi Direct.
  3. Return to the previous screen and tap the play icon.

In the WO Mic app installed on the phone:

  1. Select Wi-Fi Direct as the transfer type.
  2. Leave the Soft AP IP Address field at 192.168.43.1 by default.
  3. Click OK.

Windows does not detect your voice?
You should have no problems, but if you follow the instructions above and Windows does not detect the microphone, there is an easy fix:

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings.
  2. Go to System> Sound.
  3. Under Input, use the drop-down menu to select Microphone (WO Mic Device).
  4. Talk on your smartphone and you should see the volume on of the microphone line.
Alternative applications of WO Mic

There are alternatives for the WO Mic, but require the use of an audio jack.

Download these apps, plug your phone into your Windows PC with the headphone jacks, using a cable with both ends ending in a male headphone jack, and then your phone will act as a computer microphone.

Headphones
You can even connect a pair of headphones to your computer's microphone jack and use them as a microphone. It may seem like a strange idea, but they both use vibrations for different capital functions.

Simply put, the headphones vibrate a membrane to create sound, while the microphones monitor the vibrations through a membrane. However, you can change it and use the headset as a microphone. Keep in mind that the sound quality will not be the best and that's why this solution is the last resort.
