A California woman mailed herself an Apple AirTag so local police could catch her mail thieves.
A strange news came from CNN and distant California. A local resident found that unknown persons had removed several items from her mailbox. So on the advice of the Santa Barbara County Police, she sent herself a package containing an Apple AirTag.
Her mail was stolen again, including the package with the AirTag, but through it the police were able to track the thieves.
Thieves Virginia Franchessca Lara, 27, and Donald Ashton Terry, 37, were located in nearby Santa Maria, California, with the victim's mail, including the package containing the AirTag, as well as other items that authorities believe were stolen from more than a dozen victims.
Both were arrested and Lara was charged with felonies including possession of checks with intent to defraud, counterfeit checks, identity theft, credit card theft and is being held on $50.000 bond.
Terry faces felony charges including burglary, possession of checks with intent to defraud, credit card theft, identity theft and was held on $460.000 bond.
Authorities are trying to contact the other theft victims.
