Does the European Union need a law to create a social network funded by the EU institutions?
This is exactly what the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) demands from the European Commission, the Council of Member States and the European Parliament.
Today, ECI has the official registration of the Initiative for a European Public Social Network of EU Citizens.
The background to the “ European Public Social Network ” initiative is the desire for a platform that reflects European values and at the same time is independent of the financial interests of an operator.
The initiators' list of demands is quite comprehensive: the platform should, among other things, promote public debate, protect human rights for all people without discrimination and create a safe online space. It should also allow vulnerable groups such as children or the elderly to connect to the online world, while protecting them from dangerous content. User privacy should also be a priority, especially when it comes to financial use, and there should be transparent identification mechanisms.
1 euro per year per EU citizen
The exact way in which all of this can be combined has not yet been revealed by the initiators of this European citizens' initiative.
But they want the European Commission to launch a law that would establish an EU institution to operate such a network. Universities would have to create it impartially. Perhaps EU companies could also participate. But the initiative foresees the establishment of independent supervisory bodies by the EU Council and the European Parliament.
The initiators calculate: The project will cost around 1 euro per EU citizen per year – or 8 cents per month.
The collection of signatures can begin
The European Commission has described the petition as compatible with current regulations, and says that the signature collection phase can begin. Once the initiators activate the signature collection, at least one million EU citizens supporting the petition must be gathered. In addition, in at least seven of the 27 member states, additional obstacles based on population size must be overcome.
However, even after the signatures were collected, there would be no immediate obligation for the EU to operate such a social network.
According to the EU Treaties, citizens' initiatives are not binding forms such as, for example, referendums in Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU.
Nevertheless, the European Commission should at least deal with the request.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
Even if this is a joke, we saw what they did to Facebook, X and they are still moving Telegram. Whoever believes that it will be free of ideas and opinions is making a big mistake!! With the current state of the EU, it is not at all right, because censorship will prevail and they will impose their own propaganda to convince the masses (European people). For someone to say that it is right to create a European Public Social Network, many administrative figures would first have to change (See: Ursula, Kalas, etc.). People with open minds, without sponsors and independent of Nazi ideas, would have to enter, something that we had abolished in the 20th century and are bringing back in the 21st century, mercy that is.
My opinion is that the EU should be dismantled and an Independent EU should be created, from the interests of the Oligarchs!! Then maybe they should also think about the “European Public Social Network”!!
