Microsoft released the first preview of Power Toys

If you were a user of Windows 95 and Windows XP, then you might recognize the name Power Toys, which was associated with a set of system utilities developed by Microsoft.

Power Toys

After a few generations that Power Toys remained on the shelf, the idea is back and now available first edition for Insider of Windows 10.

This set of utilities and their source code is available from GitHub, where users can also make suggestions, create their own applications or report problems.

The then original set of Power Toys utilities was useful for classic tasks such as creating an autoplay CD or entering registry settings into the Control Panel via TweakUI.

This initial version of Power Toys includes a shortcut wizard for Windows, as well as "FancyZones", which lets you set preset targets to drag applications, which will then be maximized to fill a predefined zone.

Also included is a recording screen that outputs animated GIFs. To download the current set, and if you are running Windows 10, go here.
