Early access to Tuta's drive (100% E2E encrypted)

Tuta, known for its quantum technology in its encrypted Tuta Mail, has announced the early release of the closed beta version of Tuta Drive, an upcoming encrypted cloud storage solution. Starting April 16, select users will have access to test the new service before it is released to the public.

Tuta Drive extends Tuta's secure ecosystem beyond encrypted emails and calendars, offering fully encrypted file storage to individuals and businesses. Automatic encryption ensures your data remains safe from unauthorized access, even from the company itself.

Built with Tuta's zero-knowledge architecture (funded by the German state), all files are end-to-end encrypted by default, ensuring that only the users themselves can access their data.

The company uses the same encryption as for Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar – https://tuta.com/encryption.

Tuta's encryption uses quantum-resistant algorithms along with conventional algorithms (Kyber combined with AES 256 and ECDH x25519 in a hybrid protocol) for asymmetric public key encryption of emails, but also for calendar sharing, contact list sharing, and future file sharing services.

For data storage (symmetric encryption), it uses AES 256, which is also quantum resistant.

They store all data on servers located in German data centers.

What we noticed

The UI is very simple and the features are limited compared to Google Drive or OneDrive. It allows uploading/downloading files and folders in a very simple interface.
However, we should not forget that this is an early beta (closed to the general public), and that uploaded files are stored with end-to-end encryption.

This means security and because the company is based in Europe (Germany) it also means independence and autonomy from the big tech giants based in America who want your data.

We should also mention that Tuta so far has not given permission for negative posts that question the privacy and security of its users, In unlike the rival company Proton
