Proton launches Workspace suite and promises security

Proton has released a number of privacy products over the past decade or so, including a VPN, an AI assistant, Sheets, an authentication app, Drive storage, and more. The company is said to be a direct competitor to Microsoft and Google in many areas, so it makes sense that it would also launch a competitive all-in-one office suite.

Proton says it has millions of customers worldwide, and recently noticed that many of them are choosing to purchase its entire software suite rather than individual services. To meet the needs of this market, it launched Proton Workspace, so that those who want it can “finally break free from the reliance on big tech companies.”

Proton Workspace is available in two versions:

Workspace Standard -with Annual price: €12,99 or Monthly: €14,99
Includes Proton Mail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sheets, Meet, VPN, and Pass.

Workspace Premium – Annual price: €19,99 or Monthly: €24,99
It includes all the features of Workspace Standard plus expanded storage, email retention policies, higher participant limits per Meet call, and Lumo, the privacy-first AI assistant.

Existing Business Suite customers will be automatically upgraded to Workspace Standard at no additional charge. They will also gain access to Proton Meet, a direct competitor to Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.

Proton cites many benefits of switching to its suite, including privacy and encryption by default, advanced security, open source, protection from US surveillance (!), the presence of compliance certifications, protection against the use of your data for training artificial intelligence models, and the best value for money.

It also explicitly criticizes Microsoft and Google, noting that their products come from companies that “collect user data,” while Proton Workspace prioritizes privacy and always has E2E encryption enabled by default. In the current geopolitical climate, Proton believes that now is the right time to switch to Workspace, emphasizing that your rights to use its software are protected by the Proton Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Switzerland.
