Nomophobia Test: See if you are addicted to your cell phone

Technology and various gadgets have penetrated so much into our lives that scientists have been forced to invent a new term that describes our pathological fear of staying without our mobile phone. They name it nomophobia and comes from "No Mobile Phobia"Nomophobia

But how great is our addiction? Researchers from Iowa State University have devised a quiz that can tell you whether or not you have a serious problem.

The test was evaluated in more than 300 people, and the results showed it to be an accurate predictor of whether a person really has Nomophobia, i.e. fear of being without a phone. The results of the study were recently published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior (Computers in Human Behavior).

The following test asks you to rate the 20 questions of whether you strongly disagree (scored 1 on a scale of 1 to 7) or how strongly you agree (defined by "7" on the scale). The score is calculated from the sum of the scores for each answer, with the highest score corresponding to a higher level of Nomophobia.

Do you want to understand how big your Nomophobia is? Test the test yourself:

  1. I feel uncomfortable without constant access to information through my smartphone.
  2. I'm upset if I can not see information on my smartphone when I request it.
  3. If it's impossible to see news (eg, events, weather, etc.) on my smartphone, it will make me nervous.
  4. I'm embarrassed if I can not use my smartphone and / or its capabilities when I want it.
  5. Staying out of my cell phone frightens me.
  6. If you are about to run out of credits (units) or hit the monthly limit My, I'm panicking
  7. If I do not have a signal to download data or I can not connect to Wi-Fi, then I will check my phone constantly to see if I get a signal or I can find a Wi-Fi network.
  8. If I can not use my smartphone, I'm afraid I will not rule out somewhere.
  9. If I can not control my smartphone at some point, I will feel the desire to check it out.

If I do not have my smartphone with me:

  1. I feel anxious because I will not be able to communicate right away with my family and / or friends.
  2. I'm worried because my family and / or friends could not find me.
  3. I feel nervous because I will not be able to receive SMS and calls.
  4. I'm worried why I can not keep in touch with my family and / or friends.
  5. I'm nervous because I can not know if someone has tried to contact me.
  6. I feel anxious because my constant connection with my family and friends will be cut off.
  7. I feel nervous because I will have to disconnect from her his identity.
  8. I'm uncomfortable because I can not stay up to date with my social media and networks.
  9. I feel uncomfortable because I can not check my notifications for updates from my contacts and networks.
  10. I feel anxious because I can't control them my email.
  11. I feel strange because I do not know what to do.

Scoreboard Guide:

20: No Nomophobia
21-60: Mild Nomophobia
60-100: Moderate Nomophobia
101 - 140: Severe Nomophobia

But keep in mind this: While most people probably feel some of the above events, this does not necessarily mean they suffer from Nomophobia.

Lead study author Caglar Yildirim, a researcher at the University of Iowa, reports that there is a difference between just too much of his smartphone from having Nomophobia.
