The MeerKAT radio telescope discovers 1300 new galaxies in its test mode

On Saturday night, astronomers working on the world's most powerful radio telescope, the , put into operation 16 satellite dishes of the radio telescope and published the first image of it.

MeerKAT

The first tests it was awesome. While it works with only a quarter of the 64 dishes it will eventually include the MeerKat, the telescope was able to find 1300 new galaxies in a small corner of the universe, where we previously knew there were only 70 galaxies.

That's it MeerKat, is located about 350 miles north of Cape Town in South Africa. When it will be placed and its 64 satellite dishes will be the most powerful telescope in the world.

It will be one of the two main groups of radio telescopes included in the SKA (Square Kilometer Array). This BE is a global set of satellite dishes synchronized with each other, the 2020 year will reach the number of 3000 and will be titled the most sensitive radio telescope in the world.

MeerKat will help astronomers study everything from and the dark one for the development of the early universe about 13 billion years ago. The first image from MeerKat shows several galaxies with supermassive black holes at their centers, as well as a galaxy about 200 million light-years away.
