A US politician surprised public opinion with a statement saying that it was worth giving thanks to Edward Snowden and convicted of US National Intelligence Director James Clapper.
Ο Rand Paul, a senator known for his intense criticism of US government oversight programs, told ABC that he believes Snowden was afraid of being sentenced to death or a life sentence of imprisonment for his revelations about his actions NSA, and that is why it is today in Russia. These are of course known to the general public. The surprise came when continuing saying:
"Personally, I think he will probably come back home of sometime, with a short prison sentence.”
And while Snowden may have to stay in jail for a few years, Rand Paul said he believes others should be held accountable, including James Clapper, director of the National Intelligence Service, for repeatedly lying to Congress.
"I do not think we can enforce the law selectively. "If James Clapper has broken the law, there should be a prison sentence for him as well," said Paul.
The idea that James Clapper and Keith Alexander, the director of the National Security Service (NSA), should be persecuted legally, is being discussed for a long time, but the odds seem to be minimal. Which government will prosecute Secret Services for doing their job?
