The Swiss file hosting company RapidShare lowers the rolls on 31 March after about 12 years of operation. For those who remember, the company has been the favorite warez sharing service since its inception.
However, legal problems forced her to "clean" her servers from illegal files, and to change the reward system she used. The company offered a bonus to the uploader, every time someone downloaded their file.
After all this, the pirates started to leave the company, and its managers thought to switch to Cloud services.
It seems that the company's effort in recent years to remain a cloud storage service was unsuccessful. Many different companies such as Dropbox, Google and Microsoft offer online storage space for personal use at much lower prices.
For comparison purposes, RapidShare charges approximately 680 dollars a year for 300GB storage in Cloud. Dropbox charges 99 dollars a year for 1TB.
