The next big version of Windows 10, version 1903 or 19H1, will support the RAW image format. As you may already know, all older versions of Windows 10 did not support these images.
This will change soon. With the new Build 18323, Microsoft will release a codec package for Raw images through the Windows Store that will add native support for the RAW image format in Windows 10.
By downloading the new Raw Image Extension (still in Beta) from the Store, you can view image thumbnails, previews, and metadata of the images from the camera you are using, directly into the folder containing the photos.
You can also view your images in full resolution in applications such as Photos or any other Windows application that uses the Windows Imaging Component framework to decode the images.
To be able to view RAW images in Windows 10
Before proceeding, be sure to install Windows 10 Build 18323. Then open this page in the Microsoft Store.
Click the Download button next to the extension name and wait for it to install device you.
Log out and log in to account your Windows user.
The last step is necessary to allow File Explorer to correctly create thumbnails for RAW images.
From now on, you will be able to view RAW images with Photos. Also, File Exporer will display thumbnails and previews of your files. If you have other image viewers using the Windows Imaging Component Framework, they will also support RAW images.
