Red Hat, the company recently acquired by IBM, has announced a new version of the Red Hat operating system Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.6.
This will be the last update of the distribution aimed at bare-metal, Interactive, containers, private and public cloud servers.
As usual, the new version brings various security improvements, but also a completely new "Trusted Platform Module":
Security remains a constant, core challenge for us, and complex hybrid and multi-locked environments don't make it any easier. To better address these security needs, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 brings the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 as part of Network Bound Disk Encryption (NBDE).
The drives are safer, of course: The network-based mechanism (NBDE) provides security in network environments while the TPM works on the spot to add an extra layer of security by connecting the drives to specific systems. The new version offers easier management of firewalls with improvements to nftables.
