“You can use any Linux distribution within the Windows Subsystem for Linux” Microsoft recently recalled to Windows users, "even if it's not available in the Microsoft Store, by importing it with a tar file."
However, the official distribution “makes it easier for Windows Subsystem for Linux to install and discover with commands like wsl –list –online and wsl –install”, reported this week Microsoft.
He continued “We are excited to announce that Red Hat will soon deliver an image of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux WSL distribution in the coming months…”
Thanks to the Red Hat team as their feedback was invaluable as we built this new architecture and we look forward to the release…!
Ron Pacheco, senior director of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Ecosystem, says:
“Developers have their preferred platforms for developing applications for many operating systems, and WSL is an important platform for many of these applications. Red Hat is committed to providing more choice and flexibility to developers, which is why we are working closely with the Microsoft team to bring Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the largest commercially available open source Linux distribution, to all WSL users.”
