Turkey blocks the cloud after the Redhack hack

What happened after the Redhack hack: According to information from the country's blog, Turkey blocked cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox and Microsoft's OneDrive, as well as the hosting service GitHub on Saturday.

The move to block the services as reported by the monitoring (censorship monitoring group) Turkey Blocks, is likely a means to stop hosting the leaked e-mails on said services.

The leak concerns 17GB messages, (57.623 emails) dating back to April 2000 by the end of September and released by RedHack hacking team. An Ankara court investigating the group stressed the authenticity of the leak.

According to The Daily Dot, correspondence shows how Tayyip Erdogan uses his position to influence the media by asking for the publication of selected information in pro-government newspapers.

Turkey Blocks meanwhile reports that Google Drive has been back on track since Sunday.

The country has a long history of blocking internet services, and always aiming to control the information its citizens receive. This is how WikiLeaks was blocked in July, Twitter and Facebook in March when a car bomb exploded in Ankara. Of course we should not forget the block on YouTube also in 2016.
